名古屋城で 障壁画の 公開・菊人形展・菊花大会・隅櫓の公開が おこなわれます。
菊人形展と 菊花大会
名古屋城の 正門・東門 までの 間に 衣装を 菊の花で 飾った 人形(菊人形と いいます)が 展示されています。また 大きく 見事な 菊を 展示する 菊花大会も 開かれます。1612年に 建てられた 重要文化財の 西北隅櫓も 特別に 公開されます(午前9時30分~午後4時)。 隅櫓とは 敵を 見張るために、また 武器や 食料を たくわえておくために 造られた 建物です。

障壁画の特別公開
京都にある 二条城の 二の丸御殿と 名古屋城の 本丸御殿の 障壁画を 特別に 同時に 公開します。どのふすま絵も 江戸時代に 描かれたものです。 二条城は 多くの 障壁画を 保管しています。一方 名古屋城は 第二次世界大戦の 空襲で 全焼しました。しかし 空襲の前に 障壁画を 他の 場所に 保管したため 今も 残っています。市民の 熱意で 再び 御殿を 建てるための 工事が 始まっています。 期間:11月25日(日)まで 午前9時~午後4時30分

Nagoya Castle Chrysanthemum Doll Exhibition
The Nagoya Castle Chrysanthemum Doll Exhibition, a display of kiku-ningyo (costumed chrysanthemum dolls) will be on display this month. The dolls are created using methods that date back over 100 years. Each doll frame is packed with moss. The moss-packed frames are then decorated by inserting chrysanthemums into the moss. In addition to the dolls, over 500 potted chrysanthemums will also be displayed. The exhibition will be showcased between the main entrance and the east entrance. Additionally, the Northwest Tower, an important cultural asset that is not usually open to the public, will be accessible to visitors from 9:30AM to 4PM. The Northwest Tower was built in 1612 as a fort and storehouse for food and weapons.

Special Exhibition of Shohekiga
There is a special exhibition of the shohekiga (paintings on room partitions) of Kyoto’s Nijo Castle’s Ninomaru palace and Nagoya Castle’s Honmaru palace. Every shohekiga made during the Edo Period is designated as an important cultural asset. While Nijo’s Castle was unharmed during World War II, Nagoya Castle was destroyed by an air-raid. Luckily, most of the shohekiga had been removed and placed in safe keeping. Today, the Honmaru Palace is being reconstructed, the shoehekiga have been returned, and it will reopen to the public in May 2013!
